PROFESSIONAL HORSEMANSHIP

Ground skills are taught and assessed to a documented standard — not a generalized framework.

INDEPENDENT HORSEMANSHIP ASSESSOR

Horsemanship is assessed by Mandy Probyn, an accredited Level 3 Equestrian Coach and Natural Horsemanship Clinician.

Designed for safety

Working with children checks, first aid, insurance, risk controls, and approved facilities are all required.

Built on professional horsemanship

Horses Helping Humans is an award-winning, outcomes-based communication and body language program.

The foundation of the program is professional horsemanship, using proven ground skills to teach calm assertiveness, self-awareness, emotional regulation, and respectful communication. There is no riding. All work is conducted on the ground.

HHH is not therapy, counseling, psychology, or a medical treatment. It is an educational communication and body language program delivered through structured horsemanship-based learning.

Safety is the Foundation

HHH has maintained extremely high safety standards around professional horsemanship — essential when working with participants who may have little or no horse experience. The program is structured, carefully assessed, and designed to protect both the participant and the horse.

Facilitators are assessed against program training, ground skill qualifications, youth experience, working with children checks, first aid, insurance, risk controls, suitable program horses, safe facilities, and correct delivery of the HHH program.

THE FOUNDATION OF THE PROGRAM

"The horses do not lie. They respond to what your body is actually doing — not what you intend. That is what makes the program work."

Sue Spence — Founder, Horses Helping Humans Australia

Real horsemanship. Specific ground skills. A structured framework you can teach.

HHH is built on a specific set of ground skills — not a generalised approach to "working with horses." Each task was selected because it produces observable, teachable moments in temperament, body language, and emotional regulation. As a facilitator, you learn to see what the horse is responding to, name it, and use it to help your participants understand themselves.

Why the horse responds to your body, not your intention

Horses read energy, posture, and breath before they read instruction. The HHH program uses this to teach participants something no classroom can: the gap between what you intend to communicate and what your body is actually saying. Breathing and body awareness are built into every session — not as add-ons, but as the mechanism by which participants feel the difference in real time.

Meet THE Founder

A lifetime with horses, decades helping people.

Founded by Sue Spence, Horses Helping Humans was developed from a lifetime of working with horses and people. Sue's unique ability to read body language, temperament, and communication patterns has shaped a structured program that helps participants build confidence, emotional regulation, and respectful communication.

Sue brings a lifetime of horse experience, professional horsemanship knowledge, and a Diploma of Child, Youth and Family Intervention to the development and delivery of the HHH program. She has presented to Master of Psychology cohort students and has worked alongside university internship programs to demonstrate the HHH approach to communication, emotional regulation, and body language.

Her work has documented outcomes across youth services, corporate teams, veterans, community organizations, and support settings — and has been featured on TVNZ, The Project, Sunrise, ABC Radio and the Sydney Morning Herald.

"I built this program because I know firsthand what horses can do. I want to give others the skills to share that."
